Plates Forks and Utensils That Smell Like Egg Even If They Have Just Been Washed
You have just had lunch or dinner.
You had eggs. And now as you sit around digesting you can smell that egg smell wafting. Ewww
Now I don’t know about you – but I can smell eggs leftover smells on dishes a mile away.
Heck, I’ve been known to send back glasses and plates and forks back because I could smell the egg smell. I know that I can smell the egg smells because I am a super smeller. In these cases it is where it is most frustrating. But I am quick to let management know of their mistake.
In particular if you order a Perrier and there is a lemon in the glass – for whatever reason if that glass has not been washed correctly the egg smell is intensified. Do me a favour if you ever smell egg on your utensils -or glass send it back. These cafes need to know that mediocre standards aren’t acceptable. After all people are using these tools to ingest food. Umm hello – health safety….
Most cafes just throw all the utensils in the dish washer and hope for the best. Glasses, plates, forks, knives everything in the same washer. What happens is some of these plates or forks have left over egg on them. Not all cafes are forward thinking in rinsing the plates/forks affected so they go into that ONE dishwasher and come out smelling all the same.
Here’s the problem, the minute you put hot water on to a plate or fork that has left over egg it immediately spreads like wildfire.
Just writing about this topic is almost bringing me to dry reach thinking of that egg smell. Oh dear oh my!
What to do instead so that your plates and utensils never smell like bad egg smell.
Firstly – rinse the plate and fork, knives with cold water. Let me repeat this. Use ONLY cold water.
Next – you will then soak your plate fork and or knives in cold water and vinegar. Yes, you heard right vinegar.
If you have strong vinegar you may need to add just a touch of cold water.
If you have vinegar that is diluted: just like this one in the photo. You do not need to add any cold water.
And the final step is to rinse with cold water and either put dishes or utensils in the dishwasher or hand wash. I guarantee that you will never have egg smelling dishes or utensils after using this one little trick.
Have fun!
